Remote Radio Testing

Understanding device roaming behavior, bringing your roaming partner's network to home environment

Extend your roaming testing capabilities at the device level

One of the challenges operators face is the ability to test device behavior for inbound and outbound traffic in a roaming environment. Testing all the roaming scenarios is essential to make it possible for devices to provide non-disruptive service wherever they are. Depending on the technology, the needs for testing are different, and the complexity of it escalates with recent technologies, making it more and more difficult to achieve a full working roaming experience.

Mobileum’s Remote Radio Testing is a groundbreaking solution allowing the home operator to create a virtual copy of a foreign operator’s network in a shielded environment making it easier and quicker to perform roaming tests, using an automated or manual procedure, with any device.
Address the roadblocks of roaming testing

Save time and money on your roaming test strategy

With the intention to ease the way roaming tests are performed, Mobileum created the RRT patent-pending solution, to help operators around the world achieve their goals in roaming while they can save time and money.

Allowing the home operator to test any device at any time, eliminating the complex logistics and cost of shipping devices to a foreign country for in-person testing, whilst also significantly speeding up the testing process is a disruptive method for testing a roaming environment. The Roaming Partner’s Core Network continues to be used and traffic is routed back to the Home Operator via IPX links, which provides an in-house radio, with real roaming partner traffic handling.

Test devices in a roaming environment easier than ever

In a global connectivity environment, cellular networks are typically configured differently from one region to the next, not only because of different market conditions but also according to local requirements. Even more, there are MNOs who require additional operator testing to ensure that devices work correctly with their specific network configuration. Furthermore, newer technologies such as LTE-M, NB-IoT, and 5G enable high-performance use cases that require specific testing.

To proceed with the device’s homologation to guarantee the correct behavior on a particular roaming environment, sometimes where specific configuration is required, RRT will broadcast the target roaming partner network in MNO’s lab so that its behavior can be tested in one shot without all the usual device’s roaming testing logistics.

Enhance Roaming Quality Testing with RRT (GlobalRoamer®)

GlobalRoamer® is the world’s largest end-to-end active testing platform, covering more than 98% of the world and supporting 2G, 3G, LTE, CSFB, VoLTE, IoT, and eCall. Real mobile international traffic can be generated and tested anywhere, anytime, providing a true picture of network and services performance for roaming scenarios.

By adding RRT capabilities to GlobalRoamer®, Mobileum extends the roaming testing capabilities to cover device testing and additional lab testing scenarios for roaming.

Full capability to emulate 4G and 5G radio on the home environment

The adoption of Remote Radio Testing allows for the home operator to test any device at any time, eliminating the complex logistics and cost of shipping devices to a foreign country for in-person evaluation, making it possible to significantly speed up the testing process and let the roaming agreements be established in a shorter amount of time. Some factors like technology and testing scenarios can lead to complex testing scenarios, like VoLTE roaming, where the roaming behavior depends not only on the visited network and the test SIM but also on the device`s IMS profile and core network settings, which impact directly in the interrelationship with a network.

In addition to VoLTE challenges the wide spectrum of IoT solutions is increasing, which creates a demanding extended set of tests and verifications that will continue to put in case the 5G roaming growth. Mobileum’s RRT not only supports the creation of an LTE network environment but also 5G is supported, with a full capability to upload parameters on lab cell.

Leverage RRT as a path to 5G

5G networks are becoming a global reality. To deliver the best customer experience and monetize it, operators need to remove the blocks of deploying new technology. New devices with 5G capabilities despite still scarce on the market, are becoming more common amongst users. This brings additional responsibilities to test devices in their current 5G environment.

With Mobileum’s RRT, operators can now start performing tests in-house using available devices on the market, due to the reduced costs associated with tests delivered by Remote Radio Testing. Without the need for shipping devices, network validation can now be done in the lab while recreating real-world traffic at a partner network level.

Rapidly test new roaming services behavior running on devices

Offering your customers voice and data connectivity in virtually any country across the world is the aim of any MNO. Once the connectivity is guaranteed, what MNOs need is the capability to create valuable roaming services to attract high-value customers. To achieve this goal, once services are created, the biggest challenge is to test these and open them to real customers.

With Mobileum’s Remote Radio Testing launching new roaming services is as quick as never before. MNOs can now isolate VPMN coverage in a lab room and try newly created services as if you are the roamer subscriber.

Assure IoT/M2M service quality to enterprise customers

No doubt that IoT devices and services are growing and with it, some new problems arise in the industry. Businesses are now looking at IoT and the way to monetize it, and some of the services being created rely on a global footprint and the concept of “always-on”. This brings to the surface the problem of being able to understand if the services make sense and work as expected while roaming. Does my roaming partner provide the connectivity and QoS I am expecting from my new service offer?

Mobileum’s RRT becomes an enabler for the MNO’s enterprise customers in the IoT/M2M business, giving them a secure environment where their custom IoT devices can be tested in the field as if “they were there”.

What Can You Do With Remote Radio Testing?

Test any device
Deliver a perfect roaming experience, independently of the device you need to ensure a roaming connection. Roaming tests can now be performed “as if you were there”.
Manual testing
Perform specific tests that need to be done manually without further delay, bringing your partner’s network to your lab environment.
Automated testing
A comprehensive real device testing capability, with support for automated testing to speed up the solutions go-to-market, combining the RRT solution with E2E robot.
Collect cell messaging
Collect the traces and messages from the establishment of the wireless connection between user equipment (UE) and the network.
Core messaging check
Collect the traces and the messages relevant to the test executed on the roaming environment. In this case, you can collect all the signaling traffic between the core and the roaming radio network.
Measure traffic volume
RRT will allow collecting the traffic generated for a particular service, such as VoLTE in order to get statistics of traffic volume generated per roaming scenario.
