Centralized Routing Director

An intelligent solution built to enhance voice call routing mechanisms

A new standard on voice call routing to enhance call experience and profitability

Mobileum’s innovative Centralized Routing Director (CRD) implements the most efficient call routing logic to meet technical and business needs enhancing the customer experience while maximizing the business revenue.

As technology evolves the need for new services urges, but voice call continues to be the biggest asset to all communication service providers. CRD enables telecommunication service providers to centralize the provisioning of media routing policies and exercise control over their use/abuse.

CRD acts on two fronts, routing inside operator core network providing multi-vendor compatibility, and routing for transit operators where CRD can be used to maximize the voice business, providing an advanced routing mechanism based on quality, compliance with local regulations, and more, while keeping ubiquity and ease of system operation.
Voice call routing enhancement

Take full advantage of routing intelligence to voice calls

Mobileum’s Centralized Routing Director (CRD) platform gets the most of Moblieum’s Active Intelligence to implement voice call routing mechanisms based on dynamic routing logics capable to make use of multiple parameters such as QoS, call cost margin, business commitments, Time of Day, SLA’s, and a lot more parameters.

The architecture of the CRD platform brings operational and technical improvements for call routing by managing it from one central location to provide uniform features across the network ecosystem.
Routing Intelligence on voice calls

Manage multi-vendor environments from a single web interface

Mobileum’s CRD enables users to manage different generations of voice switches to minimize operational efforts when applying specific routing configurations at each switch to modify call routing. At the same time, it also provides a central view for voice routing and network topology that helps to solve potential challenges in a fast and efficient manner.

Mobileum’s CRD brings a new and simplified way of integrating a new node in the MNO network, removing the complexity related to configuring and maintaining the routing table on each of the network elements.

With CRD, the network elements need to simply access their routing rules depending on the protocol they are using, which makes adding or removing nodes from the network a lot easier. This way, MNOs can maintain their operational costs and lower the operational impact compared to the traditional in-switch routing configurations.
Multi-vendor environment

Centralized Routing Director (CRD) is meant to optimize margin and cost

Margin and Cost optimizations are one of the key primary business challenges that can be addressed with the use of intelligent routing mechanisms. To support such routing, the CRD platform allows new customers and suppliers to be easily implemented while providing a vendor-agnostic centralized call routing engine.

Additionally, CRD can support call routing functionalities based on commercial commitments and margin-based dynamic routing. This assures the MNO the best possible margin on each call routed over its network while simplifying the evolution of the network for many operators migrating to NFV and SDN solutions.
Optimize margin and cost

Why should an MNO consider changing to a centralized-routing model in its network?

Operating Cost Savings
The existence of a single provisioning method and one routing engine architecture to support a vast number of network elements simplifies network operations and eases business support.
Vendor agnostic
With the ever-evolving technologies over time, using CRD, carriers or operators can quickly and efficiently introduce new network elements and new vendors into the network with a minor impact on operational costs.
Faster service deployment
CRD allows MNOs to implement new value-added services just by making changes in one logical location. Using CRD, there is no need to schedule upgrades to every network element to deliver new value-added services.
Real-time routing updates
CRD provides a new way to introduce routing changes, being provisioned in a single spot in the network and made available in real-time to any number of distributed network elements.
Voice call routing policies based on QoS parameters
Routing policies on CRD enables MNOs to perform voice call routing not only based on next-hop topology but also to introduce new parameters on the voice call routing, like QoS parameters based on service needs.
Easier Inter-Network routing
When considering complex voice call routing in a multi-vendor environment spread across various geographic locations and in the multi-business domain (i.e. domestic, transit, wholesale, …) CRD simplifies the routing topology by adding a central point in the network to conjure and distribute the routing configuration all over the network.

A distributed system architecture to centralize the voice call routing in your network

Mobileum’s CRD platform is a voice signaling routing platform composed of 2 main functions, the CRD Core node, and the CRD Edge Nodes. The CRD core node is responsible for the centralized operations getting inputs mainly from operational systems. The CRD core node has the following main functions:
  • Provide configuration and provisioning of call routing policies;
  • Manage voice trunks and capacity;
  • Enable integration with 3rd party platforms to ingest their attributes that are used for call routing;
  • Provide related reporting and analytics;
  • Provide troubleshooting tools;
  • Enable manual routing policies override.

Execute voice signaling routing rules at the edge of the network

As the brain of our Centralized Routing Director, there is the core node in the center of the platform. To implement the routing policies, multiple CRD edge nodes can be deployed in the network (as a single node or in groups of nodes).

Usually, one CRD Edge node is coupled with one voice switch to act as a vendor-agnostic, ubiquitous layer to control the entire call routing process. With the edge node, the execution of routing rules at the edge of the network coupled with existing voice switches is much easier, as it removes some of the processing from STPs, which is accountable for:
  • Session Control and route selection;
  • Acting as a SIP redirect or SIP proxy server;
  • Number portability screening and resolution;
  • Trunk utilization and congestion management;
  • Automatic re-routing and routing strategies implementation;
  • Routing based on route quality;
  • Collection of traces, logs, CDR’s and alarm generation.

Optimize voice and media when using SIP Streams to enhance your unified communications services

The phone system and email inbox are no longer at the heart of collaboration. Instead, employees have found a better way to stay connected.

Team collaboration tools, ranging from Slack to Microsoft Teams, provide a central hub where team members can work seamlessly together. Some of these tools provide direct routing capabilities for voice calls to the PSTN. Direct routing costs largely depend on carrier rates and individual circumstances.

To help cope with this challenge, the central routing director applies rules depending on application traffic to connect to the new SD-WAN networks. This way, you will be able to most effectively route-specific SIP traffic by distinguishing between what is the best route for voice the stream, while guaranteeing reliability on established QoS at the SIP protocol level.

Reduce vendor managed services dependency to redirect traffic

Managing telecom switches isn’t always easy. But as you may already know, it becomes more complex on larger networks with multiple switches and multiple services associated.

Every time a network provider needs to adjust voice-signaling routing directly on the in-switch equipment, highly complex work is required. This occurs not only due to the number of equipment to be configured but also the required knowledge on proprietary equipment.

To accelerate routing configurations, many MNOs rely on vendors’ managed services, thus increasing operational costs of setting up routing configurations. To address the most complex voice routing requirements, Mobileum’s Central Routing Director (CRD) offers centralized management for complex, multi-switch environments, effectively simplifying the management of voice routing operations, via a single portal view from any web-enabled device.
Avoid vendor managed services dependency

Voice services and traffic affect multivendor & multi-environment configurations

The constant improvement of telecoms networks and platforms leads to a multitude of protocols from different telecom generations and services. With the evolution of technology, the routing of voice calls from multiple telecom generations needs to be done most effectively. Consequently, MNOs need to deal with different routing mechanisms using interfaces for 3G, 4G, or the new 5G.

Depending on the voice service, and where the traffic routing needs to be changed/configured, different knowledge is required due to the redirections that may need to be performed at different generations of switches:
  • STP for SS7 ISUP;
  • DRA for Diameter;
  • SEPP for HTTP/2.
Mobileum’s CRD is the solution for these questions, being able to centralize all the necessary changes in a single point on the network, delivering all the necessary changes to the edge nodes without any other Intervention, despite the technology being used.
