Almost everyone with a bank account has a mobile phone; there are more than 4.7 billion mobile phones in use and only 1 billion people with bank accounts. And people with mobile phones don't travel without them. Roamware, with 400 mobile operator customers in 154 countries, now offers a solution which assists banks and card issuers identify and prevent fraud.
Location Factor Authentication (LFA) enables card issuers to verify the location of
customers when there is doubt as to transaction validity. For example, if a customer’s card has been cloned and is used away from its
registered country, LFA can provide the information to ascertain if the registered user is in the vicinity of the POS or ATM where the card has been used. If the
location is different, it is more than likely an illegal
transaction. This can then be used as part of the transaction authorisation process.
